In anticipation of its opening at Omaha’s Ruth Sokolof Theater tonight, The Omaha Reader applauds King Corn, saying that Aaron Woolf “doesn’t play the blame game, despite plenty of opportunities,” and commending the way he “injects the film with a narrative that, without manipulating honesty, creates charming and flawed protagonists in Cheney and Ellis.”

Not just anyone reviews King Corn in Mother Jones this week: writer Cassie McGettigan discloses that she’s also the daughter of the “undisputed 1998 Seneca Point, New York, Corn Eating Champion.” Uh-oh. Is this agricultural bias, or what?
Still, Mother Jones gives King Corn a good report card: “Far from a hardball indictment against the system, the film is an entertaining introduction…wide-eyed and low-tech.”

Traveling up the California coast, King Corn opens in San Francisco and Berkeley this week, with releases at both the Red Vic Movie House and Berkeley’s Shattuck Theaters!

King Corn sold out to Boston audiences last weekend, prompting an extended run — until November 1 — at The Coolidge Theater!
And read The Boston Globe’s glowing review here; the paper calls King Corn a documentary distinguished by “the unusual amount of warmth it lets into the mix.”
