The Mother Lode

mojo_header2.gif

Not just anyone reviews King Corn in Mother Jones this week: writer Cassie McGettigan discloses that she’s also the daughter of the “undisputed 1998 Seneca Point, New York, Corn Eating Champion.” Uh-oh. Is this agricultural bias, or what?

Still, Mother Jones gives King Corn a good report card: “Far from a hardball indictment against the system, the film is an entertaining introduction…wide-eyed and low-tech.”

King Corn heads away from the coasts and into the heartland in November, and Minnesota’s leading paper is first to give the film a warm welcome in the region of its birth.

Giving a nod to the film’s timeliness, The StarTrib says “Any other year, the film…might have found a rapt audience among fringe public health advocates…This year, obesity has become a national obsession just as Congress is embarking on one of its periodic overhauls of the nation’s farm policy.”

Read the full piece here, and then check out our new roll-out of November and December dates in the Midwest!

King Corn is proud to come to Chicago, Omaha, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Columbus, Iowa City, St. Louis, and Columbiaand to announce a passel of additional Midwest dates soon. Stay tuned!
