The Maine Attraction

Camden International Film Festival

King Corn gets its New England on!

Far from the amber waves of grain, King Corn makes its way to the real waves this weekend, premiering at the 2007 Camden International Film Festival. Festival reviews say King Corn takes up “where Super Size Me left off” and “sheds light on America’s addiction to frugality.”

Walking the Green Carpet

EMA

King Corn is tickled to report its nomination for an Environmental Media Award: the eco-world’s very green answer to Hollywood’s entertainment awards.

EMA film nominees are recognized for their attempts — either subtle or grand — to spread the word on environmental and ecological issues through film. Our fellow film nominees include Fast Food Nation and Arctic Tale, and it’s needless to say that we’re proud, and more than a little humbled, to be among them.

Check out Hollywood’s laudable efforts to go green here, and find out what you can do to make your own filmmaking friendly to the environment.

WoWz NeWz

The WoWz

King Corn soundtrack band The WoWz hits Europe this week, but they get a little love back home, too. Indie Surfer profiles the band here, calling them “prolific” and “addictive”, “rebelliously cherubic” and (this is our favorite) “lovingly groped.”

Curious?

Check out The WoWz on their site, and stay tuned for their King Corn soundtrack and music video at www.kingcorn.net this winter.

Sustainable Table’s daily blog names King Corn its Pick of the Week for the second time this year, serving up praise by the plate-full!

Read the Sustainable Table review here, and then mosey over to The Meatrix to watch a little something they have to show us about America’s food system. Yikes.

Back to Our Roots

Rooftop

King Corn returned to its old editing haunts at the Old American Can Factory this weekend, showing a New York City sneak preview of the film in Brooklyn as part of Rooftop Films 2007.

The crowds were great, and the sunset superb…and King Corn was glad for a little chance to walk down memory lane. Or at least Fourth Street.
